Betz makes life wonderful. She is bright, quick, fiery and has a knack for doing well at whatever she puts her hand to. Even though two years younger than I she almost graduated with me. In music, however, she is even better. Starting violin at age 8, she practiced 4+ hours a day and has become my favorite violin artist.
I love her touch, the feelings she expresses in music, and the unity of soul and instrument she achieves. Contra music has been a part of her life since 2006, but never devoted much time to it until 2014 when it practically became our life. It has been very rewarding and exciting to accompany her to dances, on the dance floor and on stage. Besides contra, and music in general, she can disappear for hours just to read books. Also, she is currently studying to become a midwife. (Written by David) |
Graham! Where does one start? He's not only the lead/ rhythm guitarist for the group but the one that keeps us laughing whether we are practicing, traveling, working, eating, or sleeping. He is also a driving force in our sets arrangements. He might be the youngest member in the group but he has a maturity and depth beneath his hilarity that all of us depend on and respect. I'd say he was the glue that holds this band together.
Things he does for fun? Let's see...practice...practice...and you could probably catch him practicing some more. He loves finding new music to learn. He is also likes to play around with our almost non-existent music recording system. But most of all, he likes to brush his teeth and play with his hair. (I didn't know those could be hobbies until I met Graham.) He is my favorite 5'5" brother! (Written by Betz) |
You know that kind of guy that is rock solid, hard working, intelligent, and very talented, but yet he doesn't care to be the center of attention and in they end you're just so glad he is around. Well that is him to a T! He has studied and played music since he was 14 and because of his natural ability to make sense of the logical, mathematic side of life it has made him really excel at music theory. In short he can pick up any instrument he wants and make it sound good.
He started on classical piano, and then a few years later on a two year mission trip in Bulgaria he was introduced to the accordion. From there he has not hesitated to try any instrument that he can get his hands on. Not only has Seth been able to play any instrument he wants, but he is also the handy man in the family. He has done everything from fixing the car, to washing windows, to tending the garden, to building the house, to puzzling out the Rubik's cube and he is always the first to do more. Our band would definitely be lost without him. Accompanying us on the bass and piano Contra InTentCity is glad to present...Seth! (Written by Graham) |
So this is our favorite David! He is wholly and solely responsible for the percussion section and is full of rhythm. He claims the honor of being the first to accompany Betsy on the guitar but has moved on to cajon and bodhran. David also loves to dance...I mean really loves to dance and he tends to make dancing fun and exciting! There's no guessing what he will do next. I describe it as liquid motion.
His vocabulary and humor are as intense as his dancing. You have to keep a wary eye on him. David loves to study and converse on many topics, such as the different Tesla models, how many Tesla stations are in the world, how do Teslas compare to other cars...you get the idea. :) I love getting his opinion on all topics and he has helped me greatly in my building projects, in fact he is my master designer and a lead consultant. His heart is pure gold! He has a degree in sales, loves C. S. Lewis, speaks Portuguese, and doodles on shirts. I wish there were words to express my love and appreciating for David. Here are three cheers to our percussionist! May he never be beat keeping the beat. (Written by Seth) |
